Weekend Getaway from Pune/Mumbai – Diveagar Beach

Diveagar is a dainty beach side village around 150 kms from Pune and 180 kms from Mumbai. It is one of the lesser commercialized village on the 720 kms long Konkan coastline. The Konkan coastline stretches from south of Mumbai in Maharashtra and extends to Karnataka. The village of Diveagar lies on the Maharashtra stretch. It is sparsely populated and devoid of much commercial development. So the beach is quite pristine as compared to other popular beaches on the same stretch.

Favorable months to visit – Best time to visit Diveagar would be Monsoon (July – September). Summers are extremely hot as it’s a beach village. We visited now in the month of November and the weather was pleasant. Mornings are extremely pleasant till 1 PM, after that it becomes little humid and then from 5:30 onward the weather is amazing to do outdoors.

Drive from Pune – We started from Pune at 7 AM and covered 150 kms in 5 hours excluding a break of 30 minutes. We took the Mulshi route which is Pune – Mulshi – Mangaon – Mhsala – Diveagar. Roads are patchy and pitted around Mulshi and Mangaon. Mhsala is a relief with better roads. With smoother roads this ghat will be a driver’s paradise. The roads were especially disappointing as we were travelling immediately after monsoon. We hear that the condition is much better in rest of the months. So if you are planning a getaway, just the beginning of monsoon would be the best time.

Accommodation – Undoubtedly it has to be home-stays. There are plenty. Big home stays which have a huge property among-st greens, which rent out rooms and kitchen and you do your own cooking. Or you can just rent the room and relish the delicious home cooked Konkani food served in the common dining. We stayed at Anand Yatri home-stay which is a decent sized property in the lush greens of coconut trees. The home-stay has around 15 rooms across the property. The rooms are very clean and tidy with a special mention to the washrooms which were extremely clean with hot water available. Food is served in a common dining place at specific timings. Food is served freshly cooked and is very delicious. They serve unlimited thalis (meal platter)Β for each meals and the pricing is included in the room tariff. For breakfast we were served β€˜kaanda-poha’ ( stir fried flattened rice) with tea. For lunch and dinner, we were served thali – with two vegetable, dal, and fresh warm tawa roti. We upgraded our thalis to non-veg thali and we were served choice of fish/prawns/chicken/mutton. We tried all of these during different meal course and saying that each was delicious would be an understatement. Must say that food is the highlight of this home-stay. The staff is so courteous and extremely cooperative. I would highly recommend this home-stay.

This homestay was recommended to us by our friends who accompanied us. We were so skeptical about the cleanliness etc. but we are so glad we trusted in the suggestion. The homestay is around 1 km from the beach and the walk from homestay to beach is so picturesque, just the reason we wanted this getaway to a calm and serene village. The property itself is huge, with lush greenery to take a walk and garden area for kids to play.

In an around Diveagar – Diveagar is a very small village. Apart from the beach, there is a famous Ganesha temple which you can visit. There is another heritage temple , Rupnarayan Mandir (temple) which is a beautiful and well maintained property. This temple is very close to Anand Yatri homestay and is on the way to the beach. This isn’t a touristy getaway. Come here to relax and seek calm from the hush hush city life.

Booking and Tariff – Mr. Bhatwadekar is the owner of this property. You can chose to book this property through partner websites or may be give him a call directly at +91-9323137055. We paid Rs 8000/- per day for room which had 4 beds and could accommodate 5 people (by putting extra mattress on the floor). This tariff is including all meals for all 5 people.

I would highly recommend Diveagar for a weekend getaway and this particular homestay for its cleanliness, extremely delicious meals and of course such an economical price point. If you do visit, let me know your experience.

Sarneet
