Homemade Coffee Scrub – For all Skin Types

If you are a coffee addict like me, you know how a humble cup of coffee just makes our day from grumpy to exciting. It’s an instant pick-me-up. And as if a coffee cup wasn’t a magic enough, these beautiful beans are so immensely good for our skin too. Frankly, and you know this by now, I am a freaky nut when it comes to DIY skincare, especially with the kitchen ingredients. I love to make my own skin care products wherein I exactly know the ingredients, what suits my skin and what doesn’t and it gives me a certain joy to do DIYs, the joy of being with nature.

Coffee is so good for our skin that if it was practically possible I would only bathe in it. It is rich in antioxidants and helps firm and smoothen the skin. It’s works like magic to get rid of cellulite. It’s an excellent exfoliate and helps in improving blood circulation, sloughs away dry-dead skin cells and tightens the skin. Coffee scrubs and packs are suitable to all skin types. The only disclaimer being, don’t rub it harsh on your face while exfoliating.

Last month, I made a batch of Coffee and Coconut oil scrub and have been using it twice a week since then. Don’t want to sound like I am pushing it too hard, but you would be damning yourself for not doing it earlier. It’s going to save you the hassle of keeping one product for cleansing, one for scrubbing, one for moisturizing et cetera et cetera! How-d-ya manage to keep so many products in the tiny shelves of city apartments by the way!?

And there isn’t just one way to make a coffee scrub at home. Mix together the ingredients you love and make a custom scrub suited right for yourself. For the starters, giving below few easy to make Coffee Scrubs.

·        Coffee and Coconut Oil – Body Scrub

Mix in a bowl 2 tablespoon ground coffee, 1 tablespoon granulated brown sugar (if not, then white sugar), 1 spoon melted coconut oil and a pinch of cinnamon. Cinnamon stimulates cell regeneration and is packed with antioxidants and other minerals essential for youthful skin. This is my personal favorite and I insist you start with this one.

·        Coffee and Honey – Face and Body Scrub

In a bowl, add 2 tablespoon ground coffee, 2 tablespoon yogurt, 1 tablespoon honey and 1 tablespoon Cocoa (optional). Massage it gentle on your face and body. Coffee and honey plump up the skin.

·        Coffee Hair Mask

The antioxidants in coffee lead to stronger hair follicles and also soften the hair texture. This coffee mask adds instant shine to your hair.

Mix two parts coffee powder with one part olive oil and apply on scalp and hair strands. Keep it for 20-30 minutes and then wash off with regular shampoo.

·        Coffee and Aloe Vera Scrub

Mix one part Coffee with three parts aloe vera gel. Massage gently on face and body and then rinse off. I like to cool this scrub a bit in refrigerator, if you need something to soothe and calm your skin, this is it!
